VACAP Earned Income Tax Credit Grants

The 2006 Virginia General Assembly appropriated general funds to the Virginia Community Action Partnership (VACAP) to provide EITC grants. The EITC grants were designed to be awarded to local organizations that provide outreach, education, and free income tax preparation services to citizens who may be eligible for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit.

VACAP began the first year (fiscal 2006-2007) grant application process in October 2006. In October, a meeting was held in Richmond at which both existing and new partners gathered to learn about the grant opportunity and to hear other speakers on related topics, including predatory lending and linking EITC with the Virginia Individual Development Account program (VIDA). A total of 24 grant applications were received and funds were disbursed to the coalitions during the second week of December 2006.

The Virginia Community Action Partnership is pleased to announce that a total of 24 EITC grants were received and awarded on October 29, 2007.
