Tax Year 2009 Request for Proposals

CFED Self-Employment Tax Initiative Seeks Proposals

CFED’s Self Employment Tax Initiative (SETI) seeks proposals exploring effective ways to serve the tax preparation and related business planning needs of the more than 10 million low-income, startup and growing self-employed businesses. Managers of microenterprise development programs, community-based free tax preparation programs and coalitions of these programs are encouraged to apply for one of the following categories of funding.

IRS Announces New Round of VITA Funding

The IRS SPEC office has announced that there will be anew round of VITA grants for the 2010 filing season.  There will be some changes in the process, most notably that the grant applications will be submitted on paper (one original, one copy and one on CD).  Grants.gov will be used only to announce the grant.

Advanced EITC Targeted for Cuts

Proposed Budget Cuts Include the Advanced EITC

Yesterday, senior officials in President Obama's administration offered a preview of some of the $17 billion in savings proposals that will accompany the fiscal 2010 budget request.  The White House today released more details of its fiscal 2010 spending request, including its reasons for targeting 121 programs for elimination. 

One of the proposed cuts is the Advanced Earned Income Tax Credit.
