Tax Law Changes to Keep in Mind

According to John Trevillian,  IRS Senior Tax Consultant, there are several tax law changes to keep in mind as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA):

  • Temporary increase in earned income credit
  • Temporary increase in refundable portion of child tax credit
  • American Opportunity Tax Credit which makes temporary changes to the education credits (a portion will be refundable)
  • A portion of unemployment compensation ($2,400) can be excluded on a taxpayer's 2009 tax return

Carsey Institute: Child Tax Credit Expansion

According to a new Issue Brief by the Carsey Insitutue, more than 500,000 rural families with an estimated 900,000 rural children will become eligible for the Child Tax Credit for the first time in 2009 and 2010.

Henry County Schools Financial Literacy Fair

Over two days, 440 Henry County high school students participated in a Financial Literacy Fair, a reality program that simulates real-life financial situations and may help better prepare students for the realities of uncertain economic times.
