IRS Sets EITC Awareness Day for January 29, 2010

Life's Easier with EITC

Plan now to be part of EITC Awareness Day on Friday, January 29, 2010- a national grassroots effort spotlighting this potentially life-changing tax credit.  The need to reach out and ensure every qualified worker claims and receives their EITC is greater than ever.

CDFI Announces Funding Opportunity

Treasury Grant Program for Financial Education and Counseling due November 19

Through a new Financial Education and Counseling Pilot Program, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund is making available grants for entities that provide a range of financial education and counseling services to prospective homebuyers, with the goals of:

·         increasing the financial knowledge and decision-making capabilities of prospective homebuyers;

·         assisting prospective homebuyers to develop monthly budgets, build personal savings, finance or plan for major purchases, reduce their debt, improve their financial stability, and set and reach their financial goals;

·         helping prospective homebuyers to improve their credit scores by understanding the relationship between their credit histories and their credit scores;

  • educating prospective homebuyers about the options available to build savings for short- and long-term goals.

MACAA Announces Fall Financial Education Schedule

The Monticello Area Community Action Agency has announced their fall Financial Education training schedule. 

Sessions are FREE, open to the public, and held at MACAA’s Main Office located at 1025 Park ST, Charlottesville, VA 22901. To RESERVE a seat, you must PRE-REGISTER. Call 434-295-3171 x3025 or email oarmstrong@macaa.org. Certificate provided upon completion of eight hours.

NCTC Asset Building Resource Guide

The National Community Tax Coalition has a new Asset Building Products and Practices Resource Guide

The National Community Tax Coalition (NCTC) collaborated with members of its Asset Building Working Group and VITA programs to produce the 2009 Asset Building Products & Practices Resource Guide. By consulting the guide, interested programs can find descriptions of asset building products and practices, information on successful asset building strategies during the tax season, and additional resources for supporting their work.
